Photography is diverse. This means that as a photographer, you need to specialize in your particular niche. It is like other careers. This article is going to focus on how to be a good Fashion Photographer in Hong Kong and what factors that you need to be aware.

While flipping any Hong Kong fashion magazine, there are many outstanding pictures, these pictures obviously can catch your attention. Fashion photography involves the art of presenting an updated fashion statement to the targeted audience. When a fashion photographer produces fashion pictures, we do expect the images can bring out the newest fashion statement in the best way.

So, how do fashion photographer do that?

(1) Develop an artistic eye

Fashion Photography combines both knowledge and art. What you learn from school about photography is not sufficient to excel as a fashion photographer, especially in Hong Kong, where is a city changing rapidly. The artistic eye as referred to in the photography field is the ability to view an object from an art. In this way, the photographer is able to produce pictures that are creative, outstanding, and attractive.

(2) Commitment and Focus

This may sound obvious, but fashion photography just like any kind of photography. It depends largely on the photographer’s commitment. The production of fashion photography can be very stressful. The time to spend on production can be long time. In all this, a photographer is supposed to focus on his work without giving up his passion and the requirement from the client.

(3) Technology*

Technology has changed the photography industry. Many years ago, being a photographer is not a realistic job because one needs to spend a lot of money to invest this business. Today, it is not difficult because new camera and latest technologies in the market is relatively cheaper. Photographers should learn and adapt new technologies.

However, adapting new technology will not make your work easier but also more competitive, but if one does not adapt any technology, he or she will be out in the industry.

(4) Open-minded and ongoing personality

Fashion photography is diverse. That means, being a fashion photographer needs to be a person who has no bias. A photographer needs to be able to embrace different situations and also accommodate different personalities. Fashion photography involves meeting different kind of people. Success in photography is dependent on the ability to deal with clients.

Fashion photography clients are always attracted to the photographer who has great diversity portfolio. This is because people like to see something new. If one has the portfolio only with certain styles or group of people, majority will think that is boring and nothing new.  This can also reflect your attitude towards people and your point of views toward art.

(5) Expand your portfolio*

As diversity is important, expanding your portfolio is important. It is the best advertisement of your work. It is a way to convince people to give work to you.
